FORM 29'er: Expeditions West

dieselcruiserhead

16 Years on ExPo. Whoa!!
Congrats as well. The rims are designed by my friend Kirk Pacenti who
also helped 650B (what I ride) off the ground. Hopes are great, they are
loud as hell but are awesome. I consider them the late 90s / early 2000s
Subaru of hubs, light as hell and super reliable. When you convert to steel
body they quiet up a bit also.

congrats...

I hope (and imagine) the P35s hold up better than the blunts. I have a
set that I like a lot (check out these photos, burlwood Velocities...) I am psyched to lace them up...

Waiting (impatiently) on UPS.

Good call on the steel free hub body, every alum one I have used has gotten destroyed.

The Hope alloy ones do get chewed up and ugly looking but I've never had one outright fail. Worst case they make it hard to get the cassette off. The softest freehub body I've ever seen was on an American Classic hub.

A day late, but the parts are (almost) all here! :wings:
Just waiting on the Velotape tubeless conversion (Velocity says they shipped it today), luckily I don't need that to build the wheels.

A special thanks to Ryan at A.J. Barnes Bicycle Emporium in Fort Myers for getting me the parts. http://www.ajbarnesbicycles.com/

These P-35 rims look SWEEEET!

I have had good luck with the Blunts. Must be my "Smooth, graceful technique".

These are a little heavier than a cross-country wheel but still not too heavy for single track riding between tours. The steel freehub body should be the last link in making these wheels relatively bomproof and with the 35mm wide rims they are seriously stiff!

Front wheel weight.

As soon as I get the Velotape I'll get them shipped to Scott.

When is the White Rim trip? If I can get the time off my wife is encouraging me to go! Of course wives know best!

So far, the lean is towards X9 components (non-carbon) with standard thumb shifters. 2x10 configuration and we will likely still test out the Hammerschmidt cranks.

I am doing some research on saddles. Something that looks clean but doesn't cause - um - numbness. . .
