K5 Blazer Ideas

I have done a search and haven't come up with much so I thought I would outright ask for help. I have a 1984 Chevy Blazer with a 350, 700r4/NP208, 10 bolts front and rear and 35" tires. Oh and a 6" lift. I will be the first to say the setup isn't ideal for expo but it is what I have to work with. I would like to know if anyone knows what people with K5s tend to do or if anyone has any links to expo'd K5s. I am getting bored with my truck and need some inspiration before I do something stupid.

Thanks in advance.

First thing Id do is drop it.

6" lift is a bit excessive for an expo rig, even when running 35's

You should be able to tuck those tires without rubbing with half that lift, no?

Next thing Id do is attack a storage/sleep solution for the back.

I am working on a storage/sleeping rack at the moment and I have toyed with lowering it but the 35s will rub on a 4" lift so I was tossing around the idea of trading off the lift and tires for a 4" kit and 33s but I dont know. I just dropped 1680.00 on the tires.

blazer ideas see coloradok5.com

i would try to lower it as well into the 3-4" range better mileage and easier on driveshafts.

lots of aftermarket stuff for these. bumpers axles etc etc.

what kind of expoing are you going to do, i.e. where and what kind of terrain?

I say drop it but keep the 35's. If you do get any rub it should be minor, and if you have to some minor trimming could take care of it.

FWIW awhile back Fourwheeler built a K5 with a Rancho 2.5" lift, and 35's and only minor trimming.

I like the 35's because you get diff clearance, and because if you stepped down to 33's, and THEN air down, you are actually on 30's or 31's as far as clearance is concerned.

With that said, you have about 5 billion different options and directions you can go so it's up to you to try and figure out what way you want to go.

You'll be fine with a 6" lift. Just throw in a sleeping bag and gas and go...I basically pack like a backpacker, don't need much else. I did build my Ford so it wouldn't break when I abuse it. Built it more like a prerunner than an expedition rig. Typical so called expedition rigs don't have enough suspension travel to my liking, (read: they break easily) I like my off road vehicles to go fast in the dirt and to ride like a Cadillac. I am running 37's with 19 or so inches of travel...I am guessing around 5-6" of lift.

Some ideas here.

Can't say much more then that. It's pointless unless you get it dirty. :sombrero:

Show us your sleeping platform when you done. :victory:

You could add, get off the forum (computer) and get out exploring.:ylsmoke:

I just got back from being 6 weeks on the road, there is something to be said not being connected.

Sounds like his Blazer is done, 6" lift, 35's, what else do you need?:ylsmoke:

agreed, you have the 6'' sl and 35'' rubbers, that should be a two check marks on the ''to do'' list lol. just to help you out with some thoughts, you have a lot of room to mess around with. how bout: winch, auxillary lights, tool kit, hijack, mre's,spare drive shaft, spare u joints, shovel and axe or pitchfork, descent size cooler( use as cooler, chair, step, tool and parts prop, moving a bunch of odds and ends, keeping spare parts in,etc.),flashlights, tire repair kit, flares, tow straps, tow rope, utility rope, ...and etc etc...your "expedition'' rig should be set up like a good hiking pack, it should have the items you need to keep it going and help you as well. so apart from all the stuff you could use or put in your blazer, you'll always have your camping pack and whatnot. when it comes down to it, its all bout getting out and focusing on what matters to you. for me, if i wanna get away, i wana be able to stay away from everyday life and be able to come back to it...if i want. have fun.

No real opinion about lift but I went with a 4" and 35'' with out any real problems. And, yes its a X military unit that I fixed back up and drove for about a year.

Rack was custom and the rest was stock.

I have a 87 Kilo Five. 6in, 35's. It can take a hellva beating. I did gears 4:88 and looking to go one ton axles when i can find something on Craigslist.

Shoot me a PM and/or phone #. We talk about this for hours. I talk better than I type.

My to do list:

roof rack or rear bumper spare tire rack
aux fuel/water tank
rear winch
one ton axles

I took the back seat out. A blow up twin mattress is extremely comfortable and fits perfectly.
