Nutella

I use to consume this long ago, then my youngest son got me some last year.
I picked up a small bottle the other day at the store, and I had some on a sourdough English muffin this morning along with my tomato and cheese omelet.

It says on the side of the jar to not refrigerate it.
Why is this?
Will it ruin it if I keep it in the ARB fridge while camping?

They say on their FAQ page this about it.
How should Nutella® be stored?

Unopened and opened jars of Nutella® should be stored at room temperature. Keep the jar tightly closed and store in a cool place to maintain maximum flavor. Do not refrigerate Nutella®, otherwise it will be difficult to spread. Excessive heat will accelerate the loss of fresh flavor and may cause the oils found in Nutella® to separate.
I do not care if it is hard to spread, I can always take it out for an hour before breakfast then put it back.
I would just think it will last longer and stay fresher if it can be kept refrigerated.

Has anyone stored it in their fridge and had a problem with it?

I always refrigerated peanut and almond butters in the past, but I have to stay away from those two items now.

I do enjoy the taste of this stuff very much.

I'm hooked on that stuff....

It won't kill it while in the fridge, but you will need a jackhammer to get it out of the jar :ylsmoke: I even take it into my sleeping bag when it's a bit cooler outside...

Thanks, must be the formula of it then that makes it setup much harder than other nutbutters if you refrigerate it.

To the dry foodbox it will go then, thus leaving room in the ARB fridge for one more Henry's rootbeer :)

i eat this stuff soo much. love it. it will not go bad, you do not have to refrigerate it at all, i have had half full jars sitting in the back of the kitchen cabinet for over a year and it tastes just as good as the day i opened it. it sucks to spread when you take it out of the fridge. takes forever to soften up.
drives my wife nuts, i buy a loaf of french bread cut the whole thing lengthwise and spread both sides with a half a jar of nutella, sit there with a huge mug of milk and have my midnight snack, lol.

best spread ever, well, that and vegemite.

Vegemite is an aquired taste, one of my favorites, I have found most people dislike it to the point when I get a tube out they chalk it up to my weird tastes. But it is so good for you! and it never goes bad.

Sorry to hijack, Nutella is good on waffles........

1st off. Classic picture.

2nd, I need to run to the store.

3rd, don't refigerate it unless you like to eat it as candy straight from the spoon/jackhammer. Not bad that way though. I grew up eating PB and Nutella, Nutella and banana, even Nutella and Fluff (not that good)

I find old containers in the pantry and sometimes it gets a little hard when there is not much left. I'm talking scraping the jar nthere.
Overall, I think it would last a very long time if you can somehow resist eating it all. There must be enough oil in it to keep it going.

Off to the store now

I bought the bigger jar this morning when I went grocery shopping for the week.
Will take the small jar camping.

I put some on my bowl of ice cream yesternight, and indeed it did harden up.

Yes, I better keep the lid on tight when I go camping, as there are a ton of chipmunks up at Mt. Rainier who come in to steal any food that is left out in the open.
Heck, a few of them might carry the jar off.
I may have to pay one of them to guard my camp while I am out hiking.

I was disappointed to find that looking in Europe, Nutella uses veggie oil.
When I considered buying some here, found they use Modified Palm Oil! That crap is bad for you.
Europe must have stricter regulations because paritally and fully hydrogenated oils & corn syrup are about non-existent there.
