I'm getting ready to replace the already rebuilt 4l60e in my 2002 Silverado 1500. But before I do so i wanted to hear the pros and cons of building it to a 4l65e. or if there are any other options lets hear them! Thanks

I swapped in a junkyard 4l65 in mine about 50,000 miles ago and I've beat on it a lot. Still going strong for me, think I paid $400 for it.

I think the upgrades in the 4L65 are worth it.
I forget exactly what the upgrades are but I think it was originally Corvette upgrades to a 4L60E.

Most trans guys I know automatically install the upgrades on any rebuild.

Here's how the 4L65-E differs from the 4L60-E:
* Five-pinion gears for input and reaction gearsets (versus four-pinion gears in the L60)
* Heat-treated stator shaft splines
* Induction hardened turbine shaft
* Heavier-duty low/reverse roller clutch
* Additional friction plate added to 3-4 clutch (seven plates versus six in L60)
* Shot-peened output shaft
* Revised valve body calibration.

Do you plan in getting a brand new one? If so, the 4L65e is worth the investment at that time if you ask me. It's just a little beefier 4L56E.

Also, I'm 99% sure you can put the needed parts into 4L60 to make it a 4L65. So you could take it to a shop or upgrade it yourself if you plan on going that route.

It's between a brand new 4l60e never installed at a good deal, but will probably be in the same boat sometime in the future. Or find a good 4l65e and run that. On a side note the truck has a 4" lift and 295s and 3.73 gears
