Icon sells black rubber shock boots that go over that chrome shaft. That shaft will get peppered from sand and rocks coming off the front tires... eventually making them rough and eating shaft seals. I have the boots on my rear resis for this very reason.

I did... Some small design issues I'd change if I did it again, but it's finished, line-x coated, and installed...

You will notice in the above pics, the drawer faces are in front of the top, in this design shot you see how I should have made it, top over the drawer faces. It's a problem only if you spill something :) I intend to rectify this with a pull out shelf 48" wide, 28" deep. The edge of this shelf will cover the drawer face tops.

They look really nice! Are you happy with the height? If I make something it'll likely be ~2" shorter than yours. The dog rides in the back, and he likes to stand up and look out the back window!

Thanks, Fireball!

The height was dictated by the fact that I wanted an uninterrupted flat surface, which meant that I had to get over the full-filler hump on the wheel well on the driver side; 10 1/4".

This give me a flat surface of 52"x38".

And while initially not wanting a box that high, now that I've had some field use with preparing food on the surface, and all that valuable storage area on top, I really REALLY love the space inside the drawers. As stated previously (perhaps in my thread in the Storage Solutions forum), I fit the contents of THREE small action packers in ONE drawer. Those three action packers used to consume most of the available space in my old setup. Now I have a utility/camp/tool drawer, and a pantry drawer that my 12" Dutch Oven fits into!

It couldn't have worked out better.

You may find that your dog will enjoy being able to lay down (safer riding position anyway) and look out the window now! :D

The 4runner's journey with us has come to an end. Purchased with 61,000 miles, and sold with 271,000 miles on her, we've had an incredible 210,000 miles over the last 15 years.

I was going to go through my photo albums and pick out a bunch over the years, but I kinda lost it. Instead I went out and removed all the 'Expo' equipment.

Emptied the drawer system (new buyer bought them with it)
Removed the dual battery setup
Removed the Cell Booster
Removed the HAM Radio
Restored the outlets from full-time to Ignition
Emptied all the pockets, cubbies, and glove box
Re-installed the the rear seats (where the fridge and pantry box used to sit)
Re-installed the rear cargo cover
Removed the ShadyBoy awning

Monday I'll remove the CVT Mt. Thielsen tent from the rack.

Now.. On to the next one!
