4X6 Enclosed Trailer Build- Wells Cargo MW6

Just picked up a new Wells Cargo MW6 4x6 enclosed trailer.

I have an 86 pound kayak and the aluminum roof rack Wells cargo offers only is rated for 50 pounds so the first thing I plan on adding is a Yakima roof rack (1a raingutter, high rise spacers, wide body).

Where should I mount the wide body bracket (A or B)? The roof is polymer with an aluminum frame. I can get one screw from the wide body attachment into the aluminum frame but the other will just be bolted to the polymer roof. Is this strong enough? I've seen this discussed elsewhere and the dealership guy was telling me I could bolt it into the metal strip (labelled A).

Here is a similar trailer and it looks like he mounted to the roof/frame (B on my trailer).

Initial plans:
Electrical
Rewire 4 pin to 7 pin terminal connector (allow use of prewired Auxillary terminal)
National Luna Portable Power Pack ($560)
National Luna Weekender 52L Fridge/Freezer SS ($1650)

Hardware
Roller Drawer and Fridge/Power pack mount
Rod/paddle holders

Accessories
Eezi-Awn Series 1000 2.5m Awning ($545)
I have a marmot ground tent that I really like but may end up going with a RTT [Eezi-Awn Series 3 Family ($3380) --or-- Gran Sabana ($1650)].

There are a few on here with the ladderracks like the white trailer you posted.. But there was a guy who put 4 racks not 2 on his.

I'd be looking into how much weight you can put on the roof/rack before looking at a RTT. That's potentially 100-150lbs in transit, and 300-500 lbs at rest (depending on how many ppl are in the RTT and how skinny you are).

Yakima list the max weight with 2 bars at 165lbs and Wells Cargo list their aluminum rack max weight at 50 pounds. I've seen others add 4 yakima bars and a RTT. That being said, I'm not really that interested in a RTT but do have a 86 pound kayak to mount on top. I'm going to try to use the gutters to avoid drilling but I may have to end up reenforcing.

Oh yes. The cult keeps growing!
Good choice. You will love making it your own.
Let me know if I can help in any way.

The gutters on the MW6 trailer are not large enough for the yakima 1a HiRise gutter tower so I ordered the wide body attachement to drill into the horizontal cross member on the trailer frame. I think this will be much stronger as well. Fortunately, the HiRise tower clears the roof perfectly.

Locate wall studs foreword and aft of the axle, these are large enough to secure bolts thru to anchor the base of the rack. The weight limit is based on your ability to do the setup correctly. 200 pounds would be a limit to start with. (1 person).
