GoannaTracks 2011: North America

Australian couple Kym and Lyn Bolton have arrived in USA. Their custom Mitsubishi Canter camper was shipped from Vladivostok to Long Beach in October 2010.

Kym's camper suffered breaks in both front leaf springs while in Vladivostok just days before the camper was shipped. The springs are custom long-travel units, not the stock Mitsubishi items. Kym brought replacements from Australia, and had them installed in southern California.

Now the Boltons are exploring the Southwest states for a few weeks before returning to Australia. In 2011, they begin several months of exploration around North America with three other vehicles from Australia and New Zealand. So keep watch for a custom camper with Australian license plates! They were spotted in Oceanside CA recently.

The GoannaTracks team has now traveled across the Southwest to Texas, and back to southern California. Their vehicles are currently in storage, and the group has returned to Australia and New Zealand. The journey across North America and north to the Arctic Circle will begin again in Spring.

Kim and Lyn Bolton returned to USA in March 2011. Their first trip was south into Baja California. In April, they returned to USA and drove up the Pacific Coast to Crater Lake NP in Oregon. At present, the Boltons are traveling in the Grand Teton NP area. Lots of snow in the high country this year!

The Boltons regularly update their web site with details of their travels. The entries are richly illustrated with great photos. Recently, they have added panoramic photos to the mix. Follow their travels here:

Kym and Lyn Bolton are on the road again in North America. Follow their travels on their blog, http://www.goannatracks.com/Home/Where_Are_We_Now_Travel_Blog/Where_Are_We_Now_Travel_Blog.html

Returning to Calgary in August 2011, the Boltons drove the Dempster Highway to Inuvik, Northwest Territories. In winter, you can drive up to Tuktoyatuk on an ice road. In summer, the authorities close the road due to muddy conditions. So the Boltons parked their EarthCruiser camper, and flew to Tuk. On the flight back, Kym photographed an all-weather highway under construction that will connect Inuvik to Tuk year-round. Completion is due in about 5 years.

Driving back down the Dempster Highway, the Boltons connected with the Alaska Highway and drove northwest to Fairbanks. The next destination was Deadhorse, at the end of the Alaska Pipeline haul road, aka the Dalton Highway. Lyn braved the 35*F weather to stand for photos, barefoot, in the Arctic Ocean.

After an 800 mile round trip on the Dalton Highway, the next stop is Denali National Park. As of September 11, they were still touring the park. Keep an eye out for Kym and Lyn in Alaska for the next couple of weeks.
