Fold down/flat front seats for Jeep

I have a 1980 CJ7 and I'm having trouble finding where I can purchase front passenger and driver seats that fold forward completely flat.

Why? I want to work in a sleeping platform and I have seen them done by removing the passenger and rear seats however, in my case, I want to retain the option of having someone ride in the passenger seat without having to remove any of the front two seats. Keep in mind I will however be taking out the rear seat and make permanent room for a shelving storage system under the sleeping platform.

Perhaps too much information. Just trying to paint a picture. Make sense?

So where can I find front seats that fold forward completely flat?

Ps. First post. My name's Brett. Hello everyone.

I used to own a Laredo where the passenger seat tilted forward. Since it didn't fold, it wouldn't really help you. It provided enough room for someone to squeeze past but not really enough space gained to help with what you want, IMO.

I haven't seen any foldng seats specifically for Jeeps, but you might try finding and adapting seats from a junkyard minvan. Chrysler had the 'stow and go' middle row seats that fold down into the floor. I only have experience with their early models, but I found them fairly uncomfortable. Other middle row seats fold and tumble forward, and when tumbled may be under the dash far enough to work for you. They are also removable, which would provide you flexibility for re-configuring for solo trips, should you care to. I'm guessing you probably wouldn't want to use the removable feature to make room for your sleeping platform, though, since they are kind of heavy, and you would have to have someplace to put them when camped.

Just my thoughts.

Thanks for the info. I thought about doing a extension but put that idea aside for now because I hope to mix in some "stealth" city camping sometimes as well. I like the how you described your set up.

Good idea on looking into middle row seats out of a minivan. Looks like I'll have to get creative and adapt a seat from some other vehicle. I'll check it out.

Good call on the van seats, they are narrow enough to be modified for a lot of Jeep vehicles, like my '62 Wagoneer.

Not saying it's a solution, but my passenger seat (OEM) folds totally flat in the forward direction.

Thanks. I found the Jeep Patriot also folds flat. Looks like a run to the junkyard to take measurements to compare to the space available in the CJ7.

Would be ideal to find something that is more "vintage" looking but then again the modern seats will probably be more comfortable.

Just one more option, IIRC, I think the PT Cruiser front seat folds flat as well. At least the passenger side anyhow..

Looks like maybe a Jeep Commander??

Check this post.

That's a KK (2008-present) Liberty (in the "Check this post" hyperlink). The back seats and the front passenger seat fold flat as you can see below:

Finding seat(s) from a KK may help you with some fold-flat options, and options that are genuine Jeep.

Hope that helps.
