fuso 4x4 rebuild

Hi everyone,
I finally have had time to start my rebuild, it's a 1991 canter (fuso) 4x4.
Originaly I purchased it on Ebay as a rust free mechanically sound vehicle, but when it arrived I was in shock! rust, cracks in the chassis, a well used and abused maintenance vehicle, what to do was the big question, I could'nt afford a new vehicle and being a sucker for building things I decided to rebuild it from the ground up.
At the moment most of it is stripped and a new chassis is half done, the back diff is being rebuilt more pictures will be posted on the weekend showing the chassis.

Fabrication

Did you get the parts laser cut by someone else or do you have the facilities to do this yourself?

Hi, no laser cutting at all, just the oxy or hole saw cutters and a grinder.

As much as I have decent oxy skills I must admit to taking the easy route these days, using laser/plasma cutting services to do my cutout work.
Hey... you get older, you get lazier.

Mind you, I would not say no to a CNC cutter for the shed.
So, if anyone is donating one...

Is the chassis same width and length?
Are you using all the stuff out of the truck eg springs , diffs etc etc?
How long do you think it will take you to finish the truck?

Going to get it hot gal-dipped eventually I suppose? What about sand/mud collecting in the cross-members? Love the rear winch mount. Could be a good opportunity to mount the rear shocks outboard too.

Yeep twin adjustable outboard shocks on the back to come.

Big drain holes in crossmembers for mud and water drainage.

today's progress, removed engine/trans from original chassis, removed front engine and rear trans crossmember, after pressure cleaning the engine crossmember has a crack in it and also it's rusted through so it will get replaced hopefully from the wreckers yard.

Looks like this truck did not have an easy life.
I expect that you will probably see the same rust issues in the break lines.

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't Sunday meant to be a day of rest?

It's looking good so far! I actually missed the line in your original post that said that you're building a new chassis. Nice to see the winch integrated in the chassis as well.

Has the truck been working on the beach?
