Approx 3 miles south of Turkey, TX

My county is extremely rural so there are abandoned farms/buildings/schools/etc like this all around. I was working an enduro motorcycle race being hosted in Turkey, TX back in April. I was running the course on my Sheriff's Office ATV when I came across this old barn & equipment a mile or so off the track. enjoy!

Is the Zoo easy to get into after the State took over the Island? I never use to carry but then I was in Pontiac and ********, so I understand.

I'm not 100% sure as I haven't been there since. As far as I'm concerned, they've ruined everything, lol. I think a friend of my little brother was in there recently, however. Recent as in '17, I believe.
It was one of the turn-style gates that was broken - you could spin it backwards about a foot before the chain would go taut, slip in, and push it the opposite direction until the chain goes taut again - you're inside. Haven't been in probably 8 years though.

This "eagoyle" as they are called by locals are on the top of an old unused parking garage/building for decades. My buddy and I may or may not have snuck into it last summer for a bunch of photos.

This past Sunday I heard the news that a corner of the building had started crumbling off. The city said it needed to go down. Monday morning they got a crane in place to start removing some of the brickwork. After a couple small strikes near the top, a large chunk of the building gave way.

Luckily the owner decided to save a few of the "eagoyles". I always thought those eye holes were awfully big and odd-looking. I got to see one of them up close yesterday after it's removal. It turns out that they used to have lightbulbs in them and would light up back in the day.

I don't even know if the building still exists. I found a couple old hard drives in a box in my closet, only one of them worked. I'm slowly going through old photos (prob a couple thousand). I took that one 12/2/2007.

Santiago Apóstol (St. James Apostle) ruins, Cartago, Costa Rica

Numerous churches have existed at this site since 1575. The first building was damaged in 1630 by an earthquake, demolished in 1656, and the new one was finished in 1662. In 1718 an earthquake heavily damaged this second church and numerous repairs were required. In 1756 yet another earthquake damaged the church, forcing further repairs. This church was destroyed in 1841 by the San Antolín earthquake. In 1870 a fresh effort to rebuild the church was initiated but construction was halted for thirty years. Finally restarted in 1903, construction proceeded until is was permanently canceled in 1910 after the Santa Monica quake.

This bridge looked to be abandoned but the railways of Costa Rica have such a checkered history that I have yet to verify if any recent traffic passed over this structure. Anyhow, it is not often that I get to raft under a bridge as old as this.

This narrow gauge bridge is part of an old Northern Railway line that ran/runs from San Jose to Limon. One of my rafting mates from Miami told me of how his grandfather died during the construction of the bridge during the early 1900's so that made things even more interesting. The structure has an arch of 15 meters in height and is 25 meters in length. I've found 1989 videos of trains crossing over it but nothing recent.

That looks like a pretty neat bridge teotwaki!

I have passed this old motor lodge several times. I finally had the time to stop and take some photos. I think its been unused for about 10 years. Kind of a shame but its in a poor location in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.
