Some fun up in the San Juans this week with some great friends. I missed the Star tour by a week, oh well we pretty much had all the trails to our selves.

And here I thought you meant San Juan(Islands). I was going to ask if we Oregonians were going to have another local GTG for a G-Star passing through town.

The San Juan Mtns look great though.

My first post to the forum, but I'm really excited to see other adventurers out there.

This is what my wife and I got not too long ago as we are suffering through living in Germany for a bit for work.

It is an '85 300GD with the 4 speed. The plan is to get the rust taken care of, general maintenance done, for me to learn a bit about diesels (never worked on them before), and then convert it to run on WVO, and then do a slew of stuff to prep it for adventure touring.

Here is how it sits right now.

The fenders are pretty good I think, but the rockers and rear quarters are pretty bad. I'm planning on replacing the rear corners as well. I still have to determine if the floor pan(s) is(are) bad and need replacing too.

The work is very slow going due to working on a car in Germany is nigh on impossible based on the oppressive culture here, but I'm excited to return to the western US where I can commence to work in full swing.

I guess I should mention I'm not really new to the adventure or expedition bit as I've done a little of it before:

My Jeep YJ that we sold just before moving to Europe on the now extinct Gate Keeper from the Rubicon.

Poison Spider in Moab.

I've been 2 wheeled in my adventures over the past few years, though mostly with the Pig:

Mengel Pass in Death Valley.

Baja, 'natch.

My latest weapon of choice for when I get a reprieve from Europe, the WR:

Some where east of the Sierra.

I hope I can learn and eventually contribute to the community!

HAHAHAHAHAHA I thought the same thing... And why the Big saw??? Pack an arborists little limb saw and you could save alot of space and still cut anything you found. You'd think they were in Oregon with a saw that big aye.
