I found a used Suunto Vector (foliage) for $85. It needs a new strap. That seems like a pretty good deal. I am having trouble comparing it to the Luminox 0201 Blackout though. How big of a watch is the Vector? I've tried on the core and its almost a little big for an everyday watch.

My Advizor is essentially the same as the Vector (The updated the Advizor's display and called it the Vector, they're the same watch). I don't have particularly big wrists and Ive found the Advizor to be plenty manageable for daily use. That said, the Advizor does feel bigger than the Core and the Core was significantly lighter than the Advizor is. And IMO there is no comparing the Suunto to the Luminox, the quality and usefulness of the Suunto far exceeds its competitors.

Once you go Suunto, you will never go back. They are far more accurate pieces than any other ABC watch out there. One of the best features of the Core is the Sunrise and Sunset times. That can be Very important when you are out in the woods. BTW I have had four Cores and currently down to two. I also have several other Suuntos which are also amazing.

Ok, update. I tried on the 0201 Blackout and it felt really "cheap". It was very plasticy feeling as opposed to the Suunto, which is plastic but feels more solid. I think I am going to go with a Vector, but I found a Core for $50 and have to justify the difference. Those who have tired them why is the core $50 better?

I'm currently rocking one one of these:
pu-pf3779_1.jpg

I've had it for a couple years now, and it repeated "takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'." I beat the snot out of my watches, and they usually only last me a year at the most, but this one has managed to hold on for quite a while. The crystal is scratched pretty bad, and several pins in the band keep trying to pop out, but thats nothing a bit of electrical tape cant fix. :D

And it never comes. Never.

Suunto makes 13 Core models... which one?

A watch is a chronograph and some are able to provide other data bits, but it's also about personal expression and style. The question beyond function is what makes you happy? The one you like best, that appeals to you at a gut level, is the the better one.

If my Vector wasn't so flippin' good (11 years now) I would get a Core All Black (SS014279010) in a nano-second (pun intended).

All of the different Core models have the same guts. They are essentially just covered differently. And, yes, the Core is Well worth the extra money over the Vector. Don't get me wrong though; the Vector is also an awesome piece. I am currently wearing one of my Vectors. I have four. The Core just has so many more features than the Vector. Spend the extra money. You also get a crystal face compared to the acrylic face of a Vector.

Those Cores are nice, but I would still take my Luminox I posted earlier in this thread.
I just do not have a need for anything other than to tell time, plus I do not like digital, I like analog hands.

This is my other watch I have not worn in close to three years.
It is very nice, but I like the Luminox for its ability to see it in total darkness.

If anyone here watches the show Burn Notice, that huge watch that Michael wears is a Chase Durer.

Pretty pricey though.

There are a couple reasons for why I would go with the Core over the Vector. Depending on the model, the Core will come with a partial aluminum case, the Vector is all plastic. The Core also felt much lighter to me. One thing I don't like about my Advizor (aka Vector) is that the display is not nearly as clear as the Core. With my watch I have to be looking straight down to see the display properly, you can't look at it from any angle. That IMO is the biggest flaw of the Advizor/Vector. That said, the Vector is a time tested and reliable watch and I would not hesitate buying one again. I love mine and the issues I mentioned are very minor.

Citizen Nighthawk EcoDrive. Nice dial for night time and doesn't need batteries.

You better re-read the manual, I have the same watch, it does indeed have a battery that is charged by the sun collected by the face.

Depending on your source, some say the battery will never need replaced, some say it will, its about $60 when/if it comes time.

The replacement battery for the Citizen Skyhawk Eco-Drive JR3000-51F wrist watch has costs around $60 to purchase if you ever need one. Citizen claims that after 20 year the battery will only have lost about 20% of its capacity.

That being said, my watch dealer said he has indeed replaced one, but it was likely faulty to begin with.

Nixon Foot Soldier - 10 years of worldwide travel, been in the sea, been under the rover, I never take this thing off. on the 3rd strap and half dozen batteries. I lost it during a confined spaces job (in the dark) then stumbled on it again and picked it up.
