New Defender Concept

Land Rover just debuted the new Defender concept on facebook about 10 minutes ago. It looks horrible in my opinion. Thoughts?

We need someone with some photoshop skills to add a winch bumper, a rack, some expedition-tires etc, and then we can see what it looks like.

If you want a new Defender that might have a chance at being released in the States, that's probably your best shot.

I find the looks fairly appealing- especially compared to the most recent Land Rover offerings, but it's not a Defender. We'll have to see where this goes, although I'm thinking utility was not on the top of the design parameters list.

I think that it looks pretty good and could look very good all kitted out. Unfortunately they couldn't release a new vehicle with the classic Defender utilitarian look that we all are used to.

Thankfully it's only a concept and they have the next couple of years to get it right or totally miss it. It is pretty Fugly as is.

I am also not inspired by the concept, I just can't see that on the African savannah or bounding along the outback. The Land Cruiser 70 series is both modern and classic an still rugged enough for the third world which is why Toyota has taken that market from Land Rover. What makes the Defender great is that the current model can perform in a remote village of Botswana or the Knightsbridge area of London, I don't see that with this concept.

I see an independant suspension, and difficult integration of front bumpers. The winch looks like it has just been stuck there and was clearly not meant to be there in the original design.

Also, this is proof of concept for an off road vehicle. With huge rims and low profile street tires. If that doesn't show a disturbing trend of thought on the part of the designers, I don't know what does.

I honestly like the overall look, minus the front bumper, wheels, and tires. But the things I don't like scare the hell out of me.

I think a part of me has just died. I hope some major changes are made.

Literally, looks like a combination of the Honda Element with a freelander (LR2) front end with a touch of Mini Cooper Club rear roof line. I am so disappointed. These folks sitting somewhere in a design room, and have no contact with their community. I would have rather seen it take a step back to Series III utilitarian status with no creature comforts than to abandon the design lines that made it so iconic.
When this thing hits, either you identify yourself as owning an early NAS Defender or be associated with a stink bomb look-alike vehicle.
At least when the Range Rover Sport was introduced, and the LR3, ... they still tried to hold true to some recognizable feature lines (i.e. the inward slope of the Sport was akin to the inward rear slope of the Range Rover Classic and the LR3 maintained some resemblance to the previous generations with the step up roof)
I am so disappointed.
