6x4 Truck

Hi, I would like to know if you think that a 6x4 truck (VW, Mercedes Benz, etc.) can work to build an expedition truck or a global expedition unit. The reason I would go for the 6x4 truck is the cost, but I'm not sure if it can work well and hence the question.
