Didn't your travels take you near Turkey Creek?

I think it did....if not....pardon me.

But look what I found..........and you may have walked on famous ground!

Goyaałé (Geronimo) was born to the Bedonkohe band of the Apache, near Turkey Creek, a tributary of the Gila River in the modern-day state of Arizona, then part of Mexico, but which his family considered Bedonkohe land.

The Turkey Creek cliff dwelling is one of the most intact structures of its kind in southeastern Arizona. It was probably occupied for a few months each year by prehistoric farmers around 1300 A.D. These people, of the Salado culture, probably collected plants along Turkey Creek, grew corn, and hunted wild animals. Salado farmers disappeared suddenly around 1450 A.D.

Yep, we ended up in turkey creek, but that was a long way from the white mountains. Klondike and mammoth are closer to turkey creek.
Besides all the bugs, I have tens and tens of bites, Turkey creek is a must do.

Just let me know who wants to go and when. I had a blast and would love to do it again!

Elvota,
Lets do it. My people say that my (snotty accent) "sche-shule" just opened up. :luxhello:

Awesome photos, Tim! Looks like an awesome trip. Everything from the mountains to the deserts.

Talking about the "Rug Road", Blake & I did that about 3 years ago. We started out camping at Turkey Creek near Klondike, near Aravaipa's eastern entrance. Then decided on a whim to drive out a different way. We headed towards Mammoth, sans GPS and just the AZ Gazetteer. Fun journey -- especially in a totally stock Tacoma!

Keep up the cool trip reports, especially now with your open schedule :ylsmoke:

Sweet trip and pics! I have a good friend in Phx that I'm slowly getting into offroading+camping. I'll have to make a trip out to AZ and visit a couple of these amazing places.

Hmmmm, can't say I'm a fan of your "SOAZ" sticker......:pROFSheriffHL:
Unless you mean the LA area, then I completely understand!!!:victory:

Man, what a coincidence. I was just noodling around mapquest, GoogleEarth, and TOPO looking for a dirt route from Mammoth to Klondike, then Safford, and on around to Clifton/Morenci. And bang, your the man with the plan. Definately, lets put something together.
