7 seater SUV/Wagon cargo storage...

So I know the bulk of folks here use their 7 seaters (montero's, fj80's, fj100's, LR3's, etc) as 1, 2 or maybe even the rare 3-4 seaters...

but what about those who use 6-7 seats.

How are you carrying your gear on a mojave road, australian outback type of adventure?

Adventure trailer? M416? Roof/hitch cargo carriers?

Could I trouble you for a pic of your setup? thanks!

I don't think you have many options with a full crew... In your case you could add a second RTT on the truck or bring a regular large tent. Good luck!

Careful packing!

I have gone on many extended weekend (4 day) car camping trips with wife & 3 kids under seven in Kia Sorento (no third row)

Pack only what we need and I use an old Thule weekender carrier on the roof where we stuff all the light, soft items (bedding, clothes). Cooler, food, tent and other heavy stuff we will need to get to on the road in the cargo area. Don't take things that are bigger than they need to be, or don't have dual purpose. I only take a single burner stove for example, and use a step stool that doubles for getting on the roof rack and as a camp seat. Some bulky things you just have to take with kids, like a portable toilet.

To carry more people in a small SUV but with a third row, I would simply have to pull a small box trailer. Rear hitch cargo rack wouldn't cut it.

To do it without a trailer, you'll need a Suburban, Expedition, Sequia or a Van with a decent roof rack and a cargo box or good waterproof bags.

Just remember, poor rednecks go camping all the time. If they can figure it out, so can you. :)

Edit: If you're really talking extended outback adventure, you're better off taking two vehicles. Always good to have a spare.
