72 wagoneer build

i am new to the forum and am working on a 72 wagoneer, 360ci/th400/d20. the plan is to build it so we can live out of it for a few days at a time. I am currently working on un-doing the hack jobs of the previous owner and upgrading some parts. I recently installed new, custom leaf springs from alcan in Grand Junction, CO to replace the "custom" blocks and add-a-leafs from the Previous owner. I am working on a Throttle body fuel injection setup out of an early 90s GM. This should make the truck much more reliable. I am using goodyear MTR's for tires on steel wheels. I am planing on building a basket for the roof that ties in to the pillars to hold a spare, fuel cans and some supplies. also planing on adding a receiver hitch to the front and have a receiver mounted winch. This will also give me great tow points.

Has anyone else built a full size jeep? I plan to use it for my more off road intense trips. Easier, longer trips will utilize my Pickup truck and slide in camper. I will try to get a few pictures up.

I am in the middle of doing a full size 81 cherokee rite now my self. Not sure how extreme I am going but I am going to be swapping a 91 surburaban trans and injected motor in mine. Trying to decide on if I am going to do a spring over lift or just order some new lifte leafs for it. Btw post some pics of your ride!

Try the International Fullsize Jeep Association website. They have lots of info on your rig. I have a 68 M-715 I am building, should have driving and trip worthy by May. If you have kids the fullsize Jeeps are great, more room and less $$ to get into than just about any other Jeep out there. Jeep built Grand Wagoneers for so long and they didn't change much on them so most junkyards have at least one or two you can get parts off of. About the only downside of owning one I can think of is they are thirsty engines and all have carburators on them. Adding FI to one will help alot, not just mileage but also todays "gas" isn't too good on carburators.

i am member over at ifsj. I actually found this site from a link posted there. I am also slowly doing things to my slide in and pickup for longer range travel than the jeep will provide. No kids here, but the space in the jeep is great, I drove it quite a bit last summer. do you have a build thread for your engine swap? I am considering doing that in the next year or so.

Hello and welcome to the forum. We are currently building an 87' SJ to be our family exploration rig. Here are some pics of what we are working with.

I performed the spring over front, shackle flip rear, from bjs off road. I also installed the crossover steering (required) from bjs. Works like a dream and rides like stock.

Love the old waggys, I'm considering looking at a '69 waggy locally that's in pretty nice original condition and using it as the basis for an expo build too. I'll be watching what you come up with!

Big daddy-I have driven the wagoneer to tucson a few times and one time I used my gps to figure out the mileage. Believe it or not with factory everything and 31" michelins I got 17 mpg. I am sure with the lift and loaded down for two days of camping with the 416 in tow I get less.

96discoxd-the older wagoneers are awsome and what inspired us to purchase ours but they require a bit more work to perform a few of the common after market upgrades. Nothing wrong with that though.

Herm-hows the wagon? Any pictures yet?
