My Journey

drifterdan......exactly.....

So here we go again.....I've got a new departure date and it's not two weeks from now ! We should be back on the road (our 14th year !) Wednesday (09/13) and we'll be headed west. I've made some huge changes in my life (again) and they'll begin to unfold in the next few weeks. It's been tough going since I lost Montana (which still feels like yesterday) and the camper fire. It's time to move.....

Thanks guys.....appreciate it.....

So we're finally on the road once again. Last night it was looking questionable but with the assistance of my rocket scientist (seriously) neighbor, we were able to repair some wiring issues (I'm assuming from the camper fire) and have the rig road ready this morning.....

Now it seemed pretty odd not having the camper (after 13 years), and it was pretty depressing not having Montana (after nearly 7 years) but I guess you just do what you got to do. So we drove on Interstate 90 for nearly 14 hours today.....Tanner surprised me as he just took it all in. I couldn't have been more pleased. We stopped often.....once at this lake in Washington.....

Tanner is filling Montana's paws as best he can.....

IMG_7616.jpg

Not sure why he chose to sleep with his nose in an Arby's cup.....

We were still driving as the sun was setting. We made a quick stop along the Columbia River.....

Tonight we're going to spend in a rest area parking lot.....sleeping in the back of the truck once again. Tomorrow is going to be a big day for us.....there's a reason we drove for 14 hours.....

So here you go guys.....

I needed to get an early start this morning since I had an A.M. appointment in Seattle.....and when you're sleeping in the back of a pick up truck in a rest area next to a semi.....well, it's not all that difficult to get that early start. We made it to Seattle just in time to participate in the rush hour traffic jam.....something you kind of forget about living in Montana.....

And the next picture tells you everything you might want to know about Phase One of our life changes.....

IMG_7623.jpg

It's an Arctic Fox 811. I didn't want to say too much early on cause I bought it off the internet and wasn't sure that I'd go through with the deal. But I loved it immediately.....it's really quite nice and it's all I need. I looked at plenty of other options, but I swear you just can't beat a truck camper for my lifestyle.....

So now we're going to hang out close to the dealership for a few days and work out the kinks. We took the Jeep to Walmart to load up on supplies this afternoon. When I came out I found Tanner's head stuck in the webbing. That pup is a continual challenge.....

Jerry,
Congratulations! Glad that the adventure continues. Hopefully we will meet up soon. I am starting to get caught up with things and may throw my camper back on the truck.

Tanner is looking good but I don't know if I have the patience for the puppy stage anymore. Will probably find out since mine is 11 and this is probably his last year of hunting.

So good travels.

Glad to see you back with a new (to you) camper. Now we can return to our regularly scheduled program of reading about your awesome adventure travels. Wyoming next year perhaps?!?!? :REOutCampFire03:

Hanging out in the camper and thought I'd do a quick update.....

Brad.....always good to hear from you. I really don't have the patience with Tanner that I should have. I'm lucky that he's basically a mellow dog. So far he's only chewed up the door to the bathroom. He loves to sleep and hang out on the wood cabinets next to the windows.....

Bob.....I'm not sure exactly where I'll be or when other than I want to return to Mexico and possibly further south. I'm trying to work through some things in Montana and hope to really travel starting mid October. Good to hear from you.....

JD / Clay / Plat / Azken.....thanks for following along and taking the time to comment.....

So I've spent the last three days & nights at a casino parking lot north of Seattle. A few years ago this place was the best for a weary, cheap traveler like myself.....a free place to stay in a massive lot for an unlimited number of nights, free showers with towels & shampoo, free hot tub and pool. Yes, it was great ! Well they changed things here this year. No massive lot which provided privacy.....now all campers are in one spot.....

No showers, pool, hot tub.....and a three night maximum stay (although I'm pushing it and staying tonight.....I hope anyhow). But this place has served its purpose, which was to get accustomed to the new camper while staying close to the dealership and secondly, to clear my lungs. You've probably heard of all the forest fires in Montana this summer. About a month ago the smoke really started to kick my butt. My chest was killing me and I developed a horrible cough. So I'm hoping the clean air here will help to heal me.....

A typical 2017 summer day in Montana.....

An untypical 2017 summer day in Montana (from nearly same location)....
