I finally was united with my R100GS Paris Dakar about a month ago. I've done about 7000 miles on it since then. It is in pretty good shape for a 20 year old machine with 67k miles on the clock. I've got several hundred in parts coming in the mail to make it like new. I'm kicking around the idea of a frame off restoration with custom paint (thinking green/silver to replace the red/white with silver frame and polished wheels) this winter if my other bike project doesn't work out. A new set of Happy Trails Teton's ( powdercoated silver) are also in the mail. Until the stuff arrives, I'm just having fun letting this bike take me wherever I want to go. I've ridden it in five states and two provinces and burned through four tires so far and have lived off of it for three weeks on (and off) the road. I think it's a keeper.

After last year playing around Moab on a XR650R and KTM 690 Enduro, my buddy and I have gone lightweight:

In fact, I took the lightweight thing to the extreme for bike No. 2

Who says "Expedition/Adventure riding" requires a long fuel range?:bike_rider:

Not me! I'm probably going to put my XR650R into storage when I hit the road. Would much rather take a small trailbike when traveling with an ADV-type motorhome.

My new to me 04 1150 GSA. Absolutely LOVE this bike. So much more than the 09 1200 GSA I had, way more fun to ride and I really like the way the 1150's look.....FREKIN UGLY...:sombrero:

Going on the first camping trip with it this weekend. I'll need to post up pics all loaded up.

I know how you feel! I bought my '04 new and every time I ride it I'm reminded of how much I like it.

After fighting the size and weight of my R1150GS above timberline in Colorado I decided that I needed a smaller bike for that kind of riding. Since I'm a BMW addict, I really had only one choice, the 650 XChallenge. And riding it in rough stuff is much easier than on the big GS. However, riding it on the road is sort of like going 60 mph on a sawhorse.

over the last couple of years I've done more traveling on this than in my Cruisers

and my "adventure" bike. Anyone that thinks this isn't an adventure bike - well, they've probably never done much touring on an AMF-era Shovelhead. THAT'S an adventure :xxrotflma

I ride an 83 Shovelhead Sportster and I understand...after 100 miles my back and kidneys are beaten to death and I need more gas! I love it though :victory:

Bike Naps

Im not saying I haven't been down but its funny how many pictures there are of BMW's taking a nap on the side of the trail or road. If i could find it I have a great picture that was taken when I had a Beemer that was a little tired and wanted to nap in the dusty trail. I thought there were sand people standing over my bike we were sooo dirty.

Ha!
mine takes a nap one or two times per trip :victory:
one of the inherent flaws of the BMW- they will randomly decide to quit and take a nap :Wow1:
