Tatra T815 my saga ...,

Interesting. Looks very simple yet very effective.

So, the entire axle and ring gear can rotate/flex laterally around the central back-bone tube? What prevents the two ring gears from hitting one another if, say, both wheels were to come off the ground (axles flex downwards) or hitting a large bump caused the axles to flex upwards?

The swing axle journals will only rotate a set distance, the R&P cannot collide

ND & eastern MT really is a little bit of Siberian USA, some would argue Yukon - Alaska but we get every bit as cold they do, maybe not for as long a time. Sunny pics but couple where -20F mornings

Back to the truck, last minute decision after securing use of GN trailer 3Pm Friday started loading the Tatra for transport to my house in Lincoln MT, loading driving through the night then unloading a no brakes 19000lb rolling chassis wasn't easy but got done by 11AM Saturday morning, so now it's sits at its new home where the rebuild will continue. I'm going to have to build a concrete pad then add roof & 1 side as a temp structure.

The week previous I had removed the Tatra 10sp gearbox, after looking at size of gears shafts & bearings realized I could use this for power transmission from the Allison just by keeping it blocked in 10th gear ( 5th high split) = 0.71 OD ratio remove all other unused gears. Problem I found on removal worn out spline engagement between Output shaft of box & Input shaft of TC this was caused by worn & collapsed bearing on both shafts. I will need both shafts and replace all bearings in the box and relevant input bearings of TC

Lots of work, but it looks like you're doing it right.

So...didja get that one 815 that was being auctioned off? Or at least parts from it?

I still vote that you keep that full size cab!

Yes still getting it, it comes with 2 - 2dr cabs, so I may end up just using a 2dr, I can't keep the 4dr as it is, I'm loosing to much chassis deck space, my options are, 4dr with cut out mid window section, gain 18" cut rear door section out 2dr extended type and gain 23" or 2dr short cab gain 35" I'll have to wait a see until I have all parts on initial set up then decide.
