'85 Westy Prerunner for sale

Definitely for sell! ’85 Westy in wonderful shape. I’m not sure this is the right time to sell, but it does seem like a fine time to share the details on our van. Perhaps stir the pot on that friendly debate about the viability of these wonderful but somewhat aging vans. Dreams and plans are on hold right now for many people and rightly so. But, when we do find ourselves on the other side of this worldwide crises some folks will be playing it safe and others will act on long deferred dreams. I think I’ll throw my lot in with the latter.

So here are the details:
1985 VW Westfalia. Savannah Beige Pop Top Camper with Full VW Camping Equipment.
Asking $38,000 with room for some negotiation based on what conveys with the van.
Drivetrain rebuilt within last 23,000 miles. Drives, runs and stops perfectly. No issues.
163,400 total miles.

Most anything you’d want to do to one of these vans I’ve done. Nothing extreme or over the top just solid upgrades designed to keep her as comfortable and reliable as possible. She is built out as a prerunner with a 2” lift and a limited slip differential. Power is an FAS in-line 4 conversion. The same engine used in some of the VW Golf’s and Jettas. The 4 speed transmission has also been rebuild. She’ll cruise easily at 70 mph with room to spare. Keeping her at 65 you can get 20 mpg on the highway. On back roads running between 50 and 60 I average over 22 mph in the summer.

What she needs: There is some body seam and lower panel rust. In the next few years cleaning up these issues and new paint from the belt down would be a good idea. There is no sheet metal work that needs to be done and the frame and components underneath are in great shape. No issues there at all. She just been in to see my mechanic for a check up and to look for and sort any issues. She is ready to go!

Here’s a list of what’s been done since June 2015. I’ve put about 23,000 miles on the van since most of this work was finished.
