Roadtrek 190 - Chevy 4x4

Roadtrek and Quigley

All wheel drive has been a factory option on Chevy vans for several years. But it's available only in the 1500 series vans. The 1500 does not offer enough cargo capacity for Roadtrek's additions. So Roadtrek turns to Quigley to convert the Chevy 2500 van to 4x4.

Roadtrek uses the Quigley Pathmaker conversion. It retains the independent front suspension, while adding a 2 speed transfer case. Quigley uses parts from the 4x4 setup for the Chevy 2500 pickup. The Pathmaker conversion maintains the standard ride height of the van.

Quigley charges you and me about $10,000 for this service, but I bet Roadtrek gets a lower price for repeat business.

For about $500 more, Quigley wil convert to solid front axle, as used in the Chevy 2500 HD pickup. This setup adds 4 inches to ride height. Roadtrek doesn't use this version.

It's possible to specify the 6.6L diesel with the Pathmaker or solid axle conversions to the Chevy vans.

The Ford E-series vans won't offer a diesel option for a while because the new 6.4L diesel is too big to fit between the frame rails. The redesigned nose of the 2008 E-series doesn't address this problem. Maybe Ford will switch to Cummins!

In 2008, the Chevy diesel van and the Sprinter diesel are options for ambulance companies and package delivery firms that need a van with the durability and fuel mileage that the diesel engine provides.

Roadtrek is a Canadian company. With the steep decline of the US dollar vs the Canadian dollar, expect to see the price of Roadtreks jump upwards in 2008.

pricing

The Roadtrek on eBay says $75,000 in the headline, and $70,000 in the body text. Looks like they just lowered the price.

The 2007 Roadtrek Popular with 4x4 has a MSRP of about $92,000. That's before the upgrades on this one, like additional suspension lift, custom rear tire carrier, on/off road tires, and so on. So a 2006 with less than 10,000 miles for $70,000 is not unreasonable. Too bad it's a gas engine!
