89 GEN1 ECU Swap

Hi All,
Took my 89 GEN 1 LWB 3.0L to shop to diagnose the misfire under acceleration and random shutdown when at operating temp. The techs took for a test drive and were lucky to have it shutdown on them. They checked spark and there was none. They have worked through basic ignition system items and I just dropped off the spare distributor I had on-hand to them. This was the unit that was original to the motor currently in my Montero which was from an 89 Raider. Is there any difference between the 89 Raider/Montero?

The other item they mentioned was possibly the ECU. What are the bad ECU symptoms for these GEN1's?

Is it wise to source a replacement from a yard, or should they be rebuilt? I can get the ECU from the vehicle that supplied my motor

ECU's have issues on those especially, open it and it will be obvious it there's an issue.

No difference between Montero and Raider however they did change for 1990. You can tell because they won't plug in to each other.

Thanks Toasty,
It might not be a bad idea to look and see. Im reading there is a shop in FL that will service parts of them if needed.
