Automotive ADHD is fun!
Okay, the other thread was getting a bit confusing so I decided to expand on the Honda over here.
It's a great little bike, as explained in a number of recent writeups on the board. My svelte 130lb frame can do a comfortable 75-85, and it's not too close to redline at that point. We do get blown around a bit by the tractor trailers and such, but otherwise it is very civilized on-road. Did I mention the 60-80mpg?
Roughly 30hp from a 250cc single pushes through six gears. Single disc in the front and drum in the back stop it quite rapidly. Has a nice little rack on the back that holds a duffel bag etc.
Everything works, and in the time I have owned it it has never* let me down. 15k miles or thereabouts, and near as I can tell very little of its life was on dirt.
Only reason I'm selling it is because San Jose is a scary place to ride something that tops out at 80. I like having the ability to accelerate OR decelerate out of harm's way, so I picked up a 600cc Bandit for my commuting.
* Full Disclosure:
- Maybe 4 times in the last year and several thousand miles, it has fallen prey to the electric ignition issue for which these bikes are famous. Basically you lose spark while riding. All you gotta do is restart it and you are good to go.
- Might suggest a new fuel filter, if only because it's been sitting for a while. I will take it for a ride tomorrow to make sure all is well. I always use name-brand premium.
- Ready for an oil change and (in a while) brakes. I would do it for you, but I just assume other people are as anal about their brands as I am, so I will let you choose your own label.
- Eventually it'll need a new rear tire. In quite a while, really.
- Slightly cranky about cold starts. Needs throttle held open a bit for about 10 seconds, then it holds fine for 30 sec on full choke before it idles beautifully with no choke. No problem with warm starts.
- Does have yer standard scratches and trim issues, but no fading or ripped seat or anything like that. Really presents itself very well.
- Right side light bulb in instruments just burned out. If I get a moment, I will fix this.
Cool stuff:
- Reg'd thru Feb '10
- Comes with tool kit and (if I can find it) original owner's manual.
In order to pay for things I need (like food and ammunition) I would love to get as close to $1800 as possible. I know this is more than some that have been out there, but it has also not been painted orange to cover up unknown body work or had random stuff replaced chasing a mystery issue. This is a solid, easy to ride, safe, comfortable little mountain goat that if I could possibly convince the wife to allow me to have two bikes would not leave the stable. That was quite the sentence. On with the pictures.
