'89 YJ for sale in NW Georgia

SOLD

The portal obviously is the first place I post this. I was looking for a long time for a solid and affordable YJ for my son. After looking at 14 different CJ, YJ and TJ, I finally found this one here that fit the ticket and I bought it. To make a long story short: My wife did not share my idea of a YJ being a great first vehicle. Plus I came across an almost immaculate '95 XJ, which did find my wife's approval. As we all know, happy wife, happy life, I unluckily will have to part with the YJ again.

What:
  • '89 Jeep Wrangler YJ
  • 136,XXX miles and counting
  • 2.5 liter 4 cylinder with TBI injection
  • 5 speed manual (desirable AX 15 gearbox)
  • Clean title

The good:
  • Strong running motor
  • Smooth and precise shifting gearbox
  • Transfer case works well
  • Good clutch
  • Very good, virtually rust free body, rock solid floor boards
  • Rust free chassis
  • Good seats, no rips or tears
  • Previous owner redid the front breaks (rear drums could need some adjustment though
  • Previous owner just replaced the windshield
  • Choice of steel wheels or aluminum wheels from a '05 TJ (on picture) at extra cost (I'd like to keep them)

Between good and bad:
  • Bestop soft top is about 5 years old and starts showing it's age, but still is usable. Door uppers in pretty good condition

The bad:
  • Will need tires (on both, aluminum or steel wheels) I might have the steel wheels from the XJ though with tires that have maybe 50% thread left)
  • Slight exhaust leak
  • Fuel, temp, oil and battery gauge and tachometer don't work (Speedometer and odometer work fine)
Price:
$3,450 OBO

Are you sure it doesn't have the ax-5? ax-15 was a 6cyl tranny while the ax-5 was for the 4cyl. It's still plenty strong for the 4 cyl.

You might be correct; I thought both the 4 cyl and 6 cyl came with the AX 15. What I know for sure is that it is not the Peugot tranny :D

Price reduction to $3,300

OK, put it on Craigslist and reduced the price to $3,300 because I'm keeping the aluminum wheels. Tires on the steel wheels are OK, have probably 40% thread left.
