90' Dodge Steering Question

Is there any way to swap out the steering coupling at the steering column and steering box ? The one i have is very sloppy and the design appears to be problematic .And yes i have rebuilt and replaced the foolish thing just about every year . Now I had once seen a U-joint style coupling but it has since disappeared off the market . Any ideas would be great

You could pony up the cash and buy a Borgenson shaft or take the original shaft and weld a joint on the end like I did on my 90.

I think the factory one was designed for a Coronet or Dart or some other light vehicle with nearly no angle between the shaft and the box. They just don't hold up well in a truck. That being said the replacement joint costs less than an oil change and takes about as long to swap out. I just can't justify spending the big bucks on a Borgeson shaft. I might just chop the shaft and weld on a Spicer joint someday.

The steering column joint from some Chrysler FWD cars works as a great replacement. Perhaps a New Yorker? Its a normal u-joint style unit....

Go with Borgeson joints and some double d shafts. That's what I replaced my 55 Chevy truck steering shaft with. No slop, stainless steel, and it'll last forever. It's a very cost effective set up too. I spent maybe $150 on everything. Remember to use loctite!

Thanks for the intel . Hope all of you had a great Holiday . I like this idea and i'll check it out . Thanks . I like simple and clean . I wouldnt mind cutting the shaft and grafting the joint on . But buying box's is little to much for me . This truck needs a lot of love and time is scarce .

Borgeson all the way!!!! I have used them on my Dodges, they work great. They are pricey and worth every penny. They only take 15-20 minutes to change. After you finger in all the time it would take to scab together a new shaft you would be money ahead with the Borgeson.
Just my opinion.

Ok . I hear you loud and clear . It's always better to do it right than rigging something . Just finished replacing all the bearings ,ujoints . So suspension and the Borgenson after the holidays
