My FZJ80 Overland Build

Again thanks for the kind words for my thread, but I can not take all the credits, I got an awful lot of inspiration and ideas form all the other builds on this site. 1st gen 4Runners are fun trucks, the 80 is a whole new ball game.

Hey everyone sorry but I just realized that it has been a year since I have done anything with this thread, my apologies!

I have some good news and some bad news,

Good is that the 80 just keeps on trucking no issues to report in the last year. I do have some paint starting to peal on one of the fender flares that will need to be addressed soon, but other then that all ops normal for the 80!

The bad news is that I haven't had to do any thing to the 80 so I don't really have any thing to add to the build. This year has been one of those busy ones but not one with a lot of trips in the 80 so no new trip reports either.

I have been going through some photos and figured I'd add some new and some old that I haven't posted yet. Enjoy!:sombrero:

Thanks guys,

I'm right at 234k for the mileage, so still supper low.

You two both have killer rigs yourselves, and I will forever have CampTeq envy!:sombrero:

Thanks! I got some serious catch up to do on this build, nothing serious but some things here and there and a few more trips. I try and work on some tonight!

Nice write up, its fun to see the builds where the owner actually keeps the rig longer than a year. Hope you and your 80 family enjoy many more years of adventures and memories.

Thanks! Seems everyone is into build em and sell them these days, I don't plan on letting this truck go any time soon. It's just approaching 250K, so I don't think its even in it's prime yet.

Long overdue update for the thread, kinda ashamed the last time I did this was a year ago. Thanks guys for continuing to post on here and keeping me to task on keeping this thread alive. Lots of good stuff going on just not a lot of time to be on EXPO as much as I used to.

I just keep changing oil and the 80 just keeps on trucking. I keep meaning to send in an oil sample for analysis as I think I am starting to consume oil just ever so slightly between changes. Next change will be soonish so looking forward to getting a better idea of the 1FZs state of health. I did brake pads this fall (sorry did not document) used 100 series pads up front and reg 80 in the rear. The 100 pads seem to be a bit thicker and have a bit more surface area. I am not sure I felt a difference in braking but maybe I will get a bit more life out of them. I also added seat warmers between the covers and the seats, damn nice on the cold mornings! It's not the most trick install but it seems to be working out great. I'll have to take some more pictures and make a separate post on those.

Here is a random sampling of pics from the last year ranging from the Gila in western New Mexico to the Kootenai in NW Montana.
