95 Montero SR Fuel Tank Rollover Valve - Deletable?

Hey there,

Just bought a 95 SR and it's awesome! One of the things I need to address though is a leak on the rear part of the top side of the fuel tank: when driving with more than 3/4ish of a tank, gas seeps out from underneath the rollover valve.

I bought a new one to replace it, however there's a good bit of rust all around where it's been leaking out. My concern is that in the process of getting the rollover valve off, I might accidentally break off part of the metal where the new one would go in.

So is it feasible to simply seal off the whole area, plugging the leak and sealing the current rollover valve in place? Assuming I don't roll the truck, would it make any difference?

I've also got a 92 RS that is becoming a parts truck. Its gas tank is in better shape, but does not have the rollover valve; if the rollover valve is somehow essential for the 95 SR to function, could I simply drill and thread a hole big enough for the rollover valve in the 92 gas tank and bolt that sucker up to the 95?
