96 Disco build

Hey all, just got my first Rover. Its a 96 5 Speed Disco 1. I got it 3 weeks ago and so far have been doing ALL maintenance- Alternator, coil packs, Fuel filter, Fuel pump, plugs/wires and so on. When I bought it, it was on 4 mismatched tires from the mid 90s. I immediately put it on BFG 33s then got my lift situation in order. OME 2 inch HD springs, and Lucky 8 one inch spacers. Here it sits with the front lift on, the rear will go on early this morning when I get home from work.
Before lift with 33s

After front lift with 33s

I'll report back with new photos when its all finished. My plans for this truck are to use it here in the Pine lands and on some long camping trips. Coming in the near future is a stereo and CB setup, rust repair and interior work. I will be doing front and rear bumpers, winch, sliders, roof rack and then axle upgrades including gears and lockers. I'd like this to end up on 35s, but we will see as it goes on. Looking forward to roaming around the forums.

Nice find, love how many 5 speeds seem to end up on here for builds. The manual gearbox will help with the tire size, but as pointed out, she's going to be a dog on the hills.

Good luck!

Got the lift done today, also fixed my driver seat with a...not so typical way. Also, the 33s didnt seem to rob the power very much at all. Maybe its the 5-speed, but so far it seems to be doing just fine. A regear is in the future plans, along with lockers; but for now I think it will be A-OK.
Heres the seat fix. Its Gorilla taped. gives the seat a firmer feel and I really like it so far.

And heres the LR with the 3 inch lift and 33s

Next on my To-Do list is figure out this window issue. The rears were stuck down, so I pulled the ECU card. I soldered the joint back together and the rear windows went up. I took a quick drive and now the fronts are stuck down and the rears are stuck up. I checked both 30 amp fuses, one was blown. I replaced it and still no windows. Can anybody chime in on what to check? Thanks!

Well if it was me I'd recheck the window ecu , If the fronts were ok before it may be just a solder splash causing trouble maybe a stuck relay on the board or a bent pin on the connector .
Not to cause offense but how good are you at soldering ? A great big iron may have melted the relays or damaged the board

The rear door switches can break up internally and blow fuses , the main switches on the console can push thru if the plastic mounting plate has degraded

Bugger, how easy over there is it to find another ecu ?
I have a spare if you get really stuck , dunno what the postage would be though

They're windows, they can't be that complicated. I have my rear windows bypassing the ECU altogether and they work perfectly EVERY time. :D
