99 Montero 4wd lights not working.

Hello!

I've searched the forums for some information about what's going on and google but I cant find an answer.

I recently bought a 99 Montero and I noticed the 4wd lights dont light up, not even when I use the 4wd.

I changed the bulbs and nothing happens, not the rear wheels, center diff or front wheels.

Can someone please help me figure this out?

I know the 4wd works, I just want the lights to work too.

Thabk you!

Did you replace the bulbs with LEDs or incandescents? If LEDs, remember they only work one way so it's possible they were put in with the wrong polarity. Long shot, but possible.

This is one of the better articles on the 4wd lights.... although it's more targeted toward the flashing light issue that is much more common. http://4wd.blogeasy.com/article.view.run?articleID=318776

I'm pretty sure that all of the lights should illuminate when you start the car, if nothing comes on, there is probably a problem with your bulbs, or whatever would power the bulbs.

If you want to go into 4wd, you don't need the lights. 4wd is engaged by the transfer case lever. Lights are just an indicator. However, the only way you can get the rear to lock up is if the center indicates that it's locked. Even though the center does lock with the transfer case lever (it's a mechanical engagement, not actuated by anything electronic)... the only electronics are what is required to make the pump work, which requires the center to indicate that it is locked....

I've been tempted to create a bypass switch so that I can lock without the center diff locked, most of the time I think that simply locking the rear would be more than sufficient to make it up and over a few things.... and would save time from having to wait for my center to indicate that it is locked.

sonicmasd, no I used incandescent bulbs and I made sure they worked before installing them.

bikerjosh I haven't.

nckwltn the I know the lights are there just to tell you what's on or off but I want to get working, the 4wd works great, center diff locks up no noises or any other issue apart from the lights not iluminating.

I swapped all the bulbs and there is nothing happening.

I'd really like to get all that working.

Thanks!

So I feel quite stupid, I just started to take a look at the fuse box and the 4wd fuse was missing, I replaced it with a 10a fuse and viola.

Thank you guys for the help!
