A/c delete..do or don't? Also OBA question.

I'm thinking of ditch my A/C system. I would like to clean up the engine bay as much as possible & simplify things. Its also R12 which makes me wanna ditch it...its currently working & is ok, not great but its decent. I have a 88 Xj and the A/C equipment on these Renix jeeps is just ugly and takes up alot of space. I have thought about switching to the newer style system and compressor and such, but honestly I like windows down or doors off.
Also won't use the current compressor as OBA as it needs a seperate oiler which kinda defeats cleaning up the engine bay. However is theres a compressor I can get that won't need a seperate oiler, then I'd love to keep it for OBA. Do the newer style on the 91+ jeeps need a seperate oiler?

Whats your guys thought? And any help on the compressor questions?

There used to be a company called Kilby that made kits to convert TJ compressors to OBA. You could get a used one and get the kit if Kilby is still around. On my TJ, which is nearly the same setup as the XJ, I used the compressor space for a second alternator. This way I isolated the vehicle's electrical system, from the winch and aftermarket accesories. Run seperate batteries for each.

Hmm...I really really am going to ditch my current setup no matter what. Theres just WAY too much going on. I do have a 100A alternator...and have a brand new 100A alternator, same model and all...dual alts & dual batteries:)

Whats your setup like?

Here's my setup. 200 amp second alternator in the place of the AC. My compartment is a little crowded. Over the factory battery is the winch's industrial contactor, as well as the wireless remote sending unit. I also substituted the air box with one from some farm tractor that has integrated precleaner. OEM one was a serious POS that kept cracking.

Off Road Only is about to or has released a bracket kit to mount a York compressor in an XJ. They have made them for the TJs for years. They are a better design than the Kilby, IMO. The York compressor has its own sump, so does not need an oiler. Google Jeep OBA and you will see thousands of examples. Link to the ORO stuff.

Kilby is still around with a new owner. I was Kilby's Marketing Director back in the day and they have a gbracket to replace the Compressor you have with a york set up. No needfor a oiler but you do need a colesing filter to remove any oil that the your spits out. Its more of a percation because I have now had my Kilby/Yourk system on the Jeep for 60,000 miles and have used and abused my OBA many times, Filling tires at the end of a trail not only for me but normaly 3 or 4 other vehicles, Ran air tools, filled air matcresses and etc. I have never need to add oil to the compressor or empty the colessing filter. My only rule of thumb is not to exceed 2000 RPM when in use.
