It starts at the end of Silverado Canyon, off of Santiago Canyon just passed Irvine Lake. My GPS labels it as Maple Springs Truck Trail, but not sure how accurate that is.

hit me up with a PM and we can check out some trails together. its been a LONG time since ive been up there, but im pretty familiar with all of big bear and the nearby areas. id like to get in alot of wheelin over winter break if i can! as long as there isnt too much snow!

Hehe, well thanks guys. It sounds like there's a lot of interest in doing the local trails, Dave or Sean you wanna take the lead on this and organize something? 
I'd love to do some more exploring locally like within an hour or two. It's just much easier to do a day trip for me since the wife and the 5yo don't like getting josled around on the trails. They love camping but see wheeling as "imprisonment and torture"

Very nice, great photos...guess I'll have to make some plans for a SoCal trip someday!
