A realistic outlook: Differences between 30x9.50, 31x10.50, 33x10.50

I have heard good things about the duratrac. They have impressive siping as well. Another good thing about those is that they sell them at WalMart in that size so if you ever need one in a pinch you are set. If you are a good year man, I would go with the MT/R though. They are a bit more aggressive and can handle more sidewall abuse than the duratrac. That is if you think you will actually need them. I am not sure on Walmart availability though.

That's a good selling point! I will most likely get those. I have to save up about $750 bones though before I can get them! I've never bought new, nice tires before. Last set I got were Pep Boys brand 33's something like 14 years ago, and those were only $88 each that's why I got them. I've never spent so much money on tires. I've always bought used tires, but I want to do things right with this truck. That's why I've put so much time and effort into this research and also into the truck itself.

Don't piss down my back and tell me it's raining.

I've been running the Duratracs for a couple of year now. We also spend a lot of time wheeling in the high desert regions of California and Nevada and have nothing but great things to say about this tire. They work very well in snow and ice and I have no complaints about the performance on dry trails. I have yet to take them on any runs that have deep mud, so I can't speak to that. To me they are a nice blend of an A/T and M/T. The road noise is acceptable for the type of tread you get. I've heard from some folks that the Goodyear M/T Kevlar don't work quite as well in winter conditions as the Duratrac. My brother and brother-in-law are also in the market for new shoes for their rigs and both are leaning towards Cooper's new S/T Maxx. I heard they are priced very affordably and use USA rubber.

Inyo Man, that sounds like a great endorsement. I was thinking about winter traction too, living in the Reno/Sparks area where we actually get snow sometimes. I am saving pennies for this tire, now. Thanks greatly, this whole thread has been incredibly helpful.

EDIT: Just looked online at a local retailer, out the door price will be just a hair under $800. That's almost more than I've got into the truck LOL.

The E load tire is a stiffer ride on road, but is great aired down on trail when loaded for overlanding.

Siping for the Duratrac goes to a little less than 6/32 from what I have read so they should be good in adverse weather conditions for almost the entire life of the tire. Rave reviews for these in snow and ice. Needless to say they are good in the rain as well. Seems like a no-brainer for what you need. :smiley_drive: Having said the availability at walmart was a plus, have you checked the prices there? I am not sure, but they may mount and balance for free if you buy them there. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

ive got 31" duratracs on my montero, ive had them in everything except deep mud and sand, and they have been great. quiet on road, good traction when things get slick, and they last a long time. part of the reason i got them was based on the experience my friends have had with them. one person has a little over 50,000 miles on hers and reckons she can get another 5,000 or so before she has to be worried about replacing them.

this is the best picture i have where you can really see them. when i get back on my computer i can see what else ive got there.

Awesome, thanks for posting that! If they really last 50k+ miles, they'll last me a VERY long time. I don't drive that much right now.

In other news, I got a new carby for my Raider today. Can't wait to get it installed tomorrow so I can a) pass smog and b) get decent mileage. 12mpg is WAY too low.
