A very clean Blazer Chalet

Just sharing a link to this very clean Blazer Chalet my Dad found. You don't usually find them this clean. That said the guy is asking waaaaaayyyy too much and sounds like he knows little about cars, much less camping out of them:

This particular on is pretty much exactly like the one my Dad bought 30 years ago when he took a job in Anchorage, Alaska. Dad, Mom, 2 year old me, and newborn little sis drove from PA to AZ to AK in that thing and kept it until we moved back east.

Former Chalet owner
Serial #1382 built in 10/76, and it's owned by one of the guys in our Yahoo Chalet forum. I'm a little sad that he never told me how much he paid for it in an off-eBay sale, I believe it would set the record for a private sale. True, it's one of the best I've seen, it came out of some kind of estate sale and went through two dealers before the current owner got it. Technically speaking, he's the 4th owner, though the previous two had it for less than a couple of months. I've exchanged a couple of emails with him, I gather he knows something of weekend camping & hunting.

I base pricing on these on what it takes to get a decent one like my former Chalet up to dealership-new level. I paid $3900 for mine, put in a bunch of mechanical and assorted cosmetic fixes, and sold it for $8500 (a small profit beyond my break-even point). I'd estimate it needed another $2 grand or so to make it nicely close to dealership-new.

Rareness is the subjective value, which either adds value or it doesn't, especially in rough economic times. Truth is, anything under the sun is worth exactly what someone actually pays for it. Long story short, a CA dealer paid $17 grand for serial #0058 at one auction, and was forced to accept the no-reserve price of $9,350 for it at the Barrett-Jackson auction later.
