Action Packer Hold-Down

Hi Expo folks.

Been a while since I`ve posted. Been busy with redoing the Jeep and chasing the girls in indoor soccer all winter. :smiley_drive:

The Jeep is almost done and now I`ve been surfing around the net looking for additions to my off-road trailer. The forum here has been very valuable for new ideas.

Water/fuel storage, lighting etc. Looking at the Tent Cot avenue blah, blah. Are these trailers EVER done ??

One thing I found while surfing was a mounting system for the Action Packer.

Looks to be pretty rugged and a great way to hold down the AP. Couple different models and looks like you could get double duty by stacking.

Going to order up a couple and bolt them down.

Just wanted to share what I thought was a pretty cool product.

I like it!! Kinda pricey, but a good design!

LOL...$115 bracket for a $20 box. :Wow1:

Must admit though, it is cool to look at!

Well, I thought the same thing at first, kinda pricy.

But if you figure what is inside the AP and the fact that it will not come loose, the lid fly off, lockable, get squashed down with straps and you can stack. It seems like a good idea.

It would solve the one major problem with the ActionPackers that is for sure.

Just a bit spendy though.

The maker of those is on Pirate4x4 and people have a lot of good things to say about his products. I think he maybe a one man show (actually I think he subs out a few things like thick plasma cutting, etc) and he's got some cool products. All are little things I have either thought of wanting or thought of needing.

People did make comments about the price and he said there can be cheaper options with no dimple dies and a few other little things.

Cheap non-weather proof Action Packer plus overkill expensive bracket?

Why not spend the money on Pelican cases (or WolfPack cases) and just lash them down with straps?

Good find! That is an elegant solution to be sure. For me, the price is what would keep me from owning it...otherwise, I love it!

I am not saying it is overpriced, the material and workmanship is great. It looks like manufacturing process would take a lot of time. Pricing is probably a bargain when you look at what it takes to make them.

Very nice piece of equipment that addresses a need many of us recognize. But like the $600 camp chair or $170 Viking Shackle Receiver, this piece of gear probably won't grace my garage. I do very much admire it though, and you get what you pay for and it's good to support the off-roading community and it's made in America.

I like this. I have long wanted to build a ladder type frame to hold my action packers. Something removable that could hold six action packers, two rows of three with lockable straps. That way I could have something that can carry all my camping stuff with security and still have my bed for hauling trash and honey doos. I see it in my head, one day I'll get around to building it.

Or . . . just lash down the action packer. I've been doing it for years, with no problems to date.

Pelican cases are cool, but they are cost prohibitive for many of us -- particularly for items that won't get damaged by bumping together, rattling around a bit, or by getting a little dirty.

There was a thread somewhere here on the Portal for weatherproofing the APs. I never pay full price for Pelicans. Buying them off of Craigslist, at gun shows or swapmeets? Sure!

I also lash the Action Packers. It works, but probably not as well as these. I have a bad habit of over-stuffing (the larger ones) causing distortion and ultimately, opportunities to leak. I like the way the sides are braced. This device is secure with a relatively robust hasp where my cheapo ratchet straps are not.

One of the coolest products I have seen in awhile but just as GT stated about Pelicans, cost prohibitive for me.

7wt, I like the sound of the ladder concept you mentioned. If it comes to fruition, please post up.

Exactly what I was thinking. No doubt it looks like a nice product, but the Action Packers aren't that great and certainly cannot hold a candle to Pelican or Storm cases.
