Add-A-Leaf Spring Question

There is a guy that I know that has an '07 Tacoma. It has 2" rear add-a-leaf springs on it. He is changing them out for a new spring pack, and said that I could have them for my '05 Tundra if they would work. Does anyone know if this is a possibility? I'd rather have a new rear spring pack and know that would be better. However, free is great if it would work. Then all I'd have to do is adjust my Bilstein 5100s to sit level again.

well it will probably work. A tape measure will tell you that. You may have to do some minor trimming if it is too long.

For free just toss em in and see if you like them. If not buy new springs

You might even be able to stack some of the leaves from his old spring in. That would make the pack taller. It should increase your load capability and make for a harsher ride when driving without a load. I've seen this done on many a hilux in less sophisticated areas.

A single AAL will fit with the stock shackles, more than one and you'll probably need longer u-bolts. Set your torque properly as per and use a bit of Locktite. I can't imagine it would be too long or too wide. Eyeball it up. What else is there to know? Is there some other specific concern?
I have single AALs. Initially I noticed a bit of a harsher ride. On day two, either I got used to it or it went away.

I have used add-a-leaf springs before on my Cherokee. I guess I was thinking that they are vehicle specific.

I agree with melody, they should work, stacking some of his old springs will help quite a bit, go with the longer ones, might even cut the eyes off of the main spring to boot. That would give your OEM main spring some more support. Of course longer center bots and U bolts will be needed. That should give you some lift and not be too harsh a ride.

It's been a year since I first posted this question. I think his dad took them, I can't remember now. Anyway I bought add-a-leaf springs last April and have loved the improved payload, and even like the ride better. My wife does also so it is a win win.
