Adding a second vehicle to the stable

My wife and I are shopping for another family vehicle. We currently use our 2006 LR3 as our all purpose main family hauler. It will be transitioned to my daily driver (10 miles a day and toy). We are debating an LR3 vs LR4 to replace it.

The LR4 is nicer and will be newer (I am kind of weighting that more than mileage due to electronics being a year or two younger). It will also be more expensive. We are also considering saving 10K or so and getting another LR3. The advantage would be cost and a known entity (we love our LR3 :) ). The drawbacks are I really want an LR4...but I don't know if I can really justify the delta. I think I can because it is newer, nicer, and just as reliable. I know we will love either.

Just interested in the communities thoughts?

rather than "just as reliable" as on 06 LR3 I think you could find that the LR4 is more reliable. Not that the 06 LR3 is bad - but I think they have come a long way with each model year, especially in the 2010+. IMO It would be more "fun" to have 2 different Rovers. I had the same dilemma, was going to get a 2nd LR3 because we liked the first one so much, but ended up getting a RR Sport for my wife instead. Although they are similar it's fun to have 2 different Rovers to drive.

I didn't mean you should look at a RR Sport, they're definitely way smaller inside. That was just my example of why we went with something other than a 2nd LR3. I meant you should look at an LR4 - even though it's very similar to the LR3 I think it would be cool to have one of each and they made some nice improvements to the 4 over the 3.

I did not take it that you were recommending a RR sport instead. Sorry, I was trying to say I love the RR Sport but struggle owning one due to the smaller size. My bad. I do appreciate the input from fellow owners. My father in law thinks I am retarded for two of the same vehicles. He does get that it won't really be the same vehicle once I am done :)

Great point! I don't think there is anything wrong with two of the same if you really like them. I'd be very happy to have two LR3 in the garage. We actually started looking at LR4's but happend to find a good deal on a low mileage RR Sport from CA (no rust) that my wife really liked. No matter what you get, you will be happy. Good luck.

I'm going to be in a somewhat similar situation in the near future. My DD is old and dying on me. My wife drives our LC (keeping this one) and I would be totally fine with another near identical one. However, she says she doesn't want the "same thing". I have been looking at the LR3/LR4 as it is one of the viable options. I'm not a LR guy so I'm trying to research the differences between the LR 3/4 and see if the $$$ is worth it for the LR4. It is encouraging to hear that you are enjoying your LR3 enough to buy another one. I'm interested to see what you end up with.
