Adding Gromments to a Tarp

While not rocket science I see many different kits on the market for adding grommets to a tarp. An Amazon.com review has the same kit as a 5 star for one person and a 1 star for another person. Figure the 1 star reviewer must not have had a big enough hammer. :sombrero:

Anyone have a kit they recommend ? One to avoid ?

I just used whatever my local Ace hardware store had in stock. This kit or something very much like it:

This was for adding extra grommets to a standard tarp to build my painter's-pole awning:

You just see the "factory" grommet at the right edge the picture, and the fender washer on one of the grommets I added nearby.

It was pretty dang easy, just followed the instructions and whacked it with a 2lb hammer.

I don't know much, but I do know that gromets are easy. Get a kit for $5 at your local hardware store and have fun grometting. Once you do a few of them it only takes about 30-40 seconds per gromet. In addition to the kit I got at "Do It Best", I also used a block of wood to bang them against and a medium sized hammer.

home depot has some good plastic snap together grommets that i really like, they are for use with the shade cloth. if your store sells shade cloth then the grommets will be with the other accesories right next to the cloth.

Not sure which ones RHINO is refering to, but in the past I have used the snap together plastic grommets.

They were blue and the outside was triangular in shape.

They didn't last very long before falling apart.

I use the brass ones. They come in different sizes and are easy to install.

If you look around you can also get button snaps that install the same way.

these are plastic snap together ones,,, they are that kind of plastic that is grey colored and has the glass fober in it? made for sun screens, UV treated and will outlast the tarp you use them on easily. i have 3 on a triangle sail shade in my side yard and are at least 6 yrs old now in the AZ sun.

but the brass ones are great too.
