Adding Transit seats to Chevy Express cargo van

I bought a 2 seat bench and brackets from a ford transit van and was planning to have them welded to the floor of my express van. After doing a bit of research, I'd much rather bolt them in with some big spacers or steel plates underneath the van. I have the shorter wheel base express and the gas tank is right underneath where I'd need to drill, and to me it seems impossible to reach up in there for the install. Does anyone have experience with this or something similar?

Should be enough space between floor and tank to accomplish your goal. There is on Fords anyway. I've owned Chevy Express vans but never dropped a tank on one. However, that's what I would do, drop the tank for the job.
