I finally got my 2 meter radio and a 5/8 wave antenna. I'm trying to decide the best layout for my antennas. I have a 1990 Jimmy with the removable fiberglass half top. There is approximately 2'8" X 4'10" of steel roof. I currently have a cell phone antenna mounted about 8" from the back of the steel roof. Should I move the cell phone antenna forward and use that hole to mount my 2 meter antenna? The roof is definitely stiffer at that location, although I can address the rigidity of the sheet metal in other ways. The antenna might be slightly better protected at the back of the cab, but I don't know if having it at the back will adversely affect my transmission.
I also have a magnetic mount CB antenna that I need for some occasions. If I were to add a permanent mount CB antenna to the mix, should I try to find a different place to mount it other than the roof? I have always thought the mag mount worked well up there.
I'm not opposed to making new holes where I need to, but I'd like to try to do it right the first time, so I'm open to suggestions.
