Aftermarket CV Axle Shafts

I am reviving this thread to report that my GSP has held up so far, but it has not seen that much use/abuse. It's been off road only a handful of times, lots of road miles as well. The install, for a first timer, went smooth. However, my passenger side original CV has been leaking, and I'm back at the cross roads of which CV to buy. Napa does not stock the Altrom brand that was supposed to be OEM repackaged, and I can't find Altrom as being carried anywhere else. With a trip to Big Bend Ranch coming up, I want to be squared away before hitting the road. Any new info or reports, good or bad, on CV axle replacements?

I had to go with a new manufactured Toyota.

Even the reman Toyota (Hecho en Mexico) was out of spec.

Sorry I don't recall what the original spec was, find that number and mic the remans to find one close enough if you don't want to pay oem stealership prices.

Both the remanned and brand new CV's from Napa had large differences from the OEM axle that made me not use them. I ended up having a local "CV specialist shop" rebuild my OEM axle for much cheaper.

go with the results people have had with your particular type of rig as far aftermarket parts. Napa has been better then autozone for 95-04 tacoma/96-02 4runner.

best option is (as said above) junk yard or used OEM. Even if the boot is torn you can reboot them no problem so long as the guts are ok. For 95-04 tacoma/96-02 4runner the OEM have better articulation, better cv cages, and better shafts.

Thread revival: for my passenger side, I went with an Pep Boys remanufactured. Not good. The boot outer boot slipped off after 7 months, and after being reattached, it split. I'm going to change it out and take this one back. I'll use the new replacement as a spare.
