So I figured I would throw this out to the collective minds here for opinion gathering...
I am looking to replace the current stock radio in my 00" D2 (w/CD Changer) for a radio that has the following:
AM/FM + HD
Sirius
CD (single is more than enough)
Aux-in or USB jack for ipod/iphone
Bluetooth (nice to have)
Thoughts?
Sounds like the radio you're looking for is available easily for about $100 from any of the big name brands. Just pick your favorite and go.
I've been running with Kenwood decks and the Kenwood Sirius reciever since about 2001 and been very happy. I recently got a DD that has Sirius built in. On the truck, I upgraded the radio again to a Sony that can't work with the Kenwood Sirius tuner, so I have to figure out a solution to that.
For me, Sirius is mandatory, both because commercial content on terrestrial radio is horrendous, I don't give a **** about hearing Lindsay Lohan's latest adventures every hour on the hour, I don't need to hear traffic reports about the city I'm not in every 10 minutes, etc. Not to mention, it's very easy to get out of radio reception if you're actually doing any "overlanding".
I'm currently looking at something like a Sirius Stiletto so I can use it out of the truck as well.
A DIN radio pops into the D2 with no dash kit required, but it would be nice to have the little "finisher" plate at the bottom, which I don't have yet. I'm currently running line-outs to the factory amp under the seat. That amp sucks even compared to the built-in amp in any $100 aftermarket head unit. Eventually I plan to jumper it out and run direct from the HU to the speakers.
I had Sirius in a car a couple years ago-I didn't like the sound quality on the run-it was very AM radio-ish, plus it's a subscription. The HD is free (other than the receiver).
You really need to mention what your setup was before making a claim like that. Were you using an FM modulator or cassette adaptor?
Yes, the talk radio channels are heavily compressed and some sound horrible. The music channels are all great.
