Aftermarket TPMS ?

Does here anyone here use an aftermarket TPMS. If so, what do you use or like? My Rig does not have factory RF sensors so I'm looking for a complete kit.

I was going to rig something with a RasPi and some 315mhz transmitters but when I googled TPMS sensors; I found there are tons of them but know one I know any experience with them.

Thanks,

I installed an Orange Electronics P409S retrofit TPMS a few years ago on my van. I like the display showing all four pressures at the same time, alternating with temperature.

I don't like that it uses metal valve stems and when the batteries die, you have to replace the entire sensor which is expensive. I'd like something that also allowed for spare tire sensor monitoring when necessary.

I looked into Schrader brand retrofit TMPS which have rubber valve stems only they don't seem to be available currently.

The problem with the metal stemed tpms semsors is that they are fairly fragile. They have the tendancy to corrode in the cap/valve core area and will crack causing a slow leak if you are luckey or break off completly if you are unluckey. Some metal stems are replaceable but many are not which then requires replacing the whole sensor. The rubber stems are replaceable like any other rubber stem and are fairly stout, we see very few that need replacing at the tire shop I work for.

I use this on my Motor Home without any issues, you can set a high/low air pressure alarm, high temp alarm, it runs off 12v but has an internal rechargeable battery if needed, and you can take it with you when you sell your rig. The monitor cycles through the tires one at a time to show air pressure and temp one at a time, unless you have an alarm go off. The only bad thing about the system is that it can take up to 10 minutes to read after the vehicle starts moving, I think the longest I have waited is about 4-5. Look at the RV sites, they have lots of aftermarket TPMS systems with tons of info.

One more thing, don't get the flow through sensors, every system out there seems to have issues with them, I took the locks off mine for easy use, just screw on and off with my hand no tools required and replaceable batteries.
