Agree with more monteros. Few years ago I was the only one with a montero out for my circle of freinds. Now there is a good dozen maybe more. And its popularity is still growing.

Your build thread is the most powerful Montero recruiting tool I've seen so far...worked on me!

Love for the Montero

Yeah, I agree with Sonicmasd. I blame Eurosonic, Toasty and IncorporatedX, mostly, for my Montero problem. I also own an Evo 9, set up for track days. Looks real mean in my garage, but at the track looks positively homely compared to all the tricked out M3's, S5's, Vette's, Porsches, you name it at 3x the price, or more. Routinely the only Mitsu at the track. But that car surprises everyone. It punches so far above its weight, then on a tighter track or a damp track really shows up the other cars. That car made me a Mitsu fan. I rarely run it these days, but can't bring myself to sell it. It is so perfectly balanced and your best friend at the track. No bad habits. Awesome car.

If I have any Montero complaints, they come down to just a few: 1) Not happy with parent company damaging the brand in the US (in the mid 90's Mitsu was the bomb. 3000GT faster than a Vette. DSM cars were amazing in the hands of hot rodders), 2) Could they have added an extra couple of inches of room under the Montero hood, so snug in there, 3) I am sick of the crap owners and mechanics that have been under my 16 year old Montero's from previous ownership (bolts missing, brackets missing, etc.). But that said, these vehicles have held up decently well with what I will call below average care by previous owners. Imagine if they'd been loved.

These vehicles have their issues (goofy engine coolant piping, valve stem seals, crank bolts, and annoying jiggly mirrors), but they are solid cars. I've two 16 year old Montero's with likely only average care, at best, from PO's, and the engines with 160 thousand miles have compression in the mid 170PSI range. That's impressive.
