Airbag Question

I was grabbing something behind my window visor and noted the airbag service sign. It said to service the airbag every 8 years ... mine being close to 16 years old puts me a bit behind on the maintenance schedule :sombrero: Are folks actually replacing their airbags, removing them or just hoping they don't eat an old airbag? I have never heard of one just deploying because it was old.

I've wondered the same thing my DI is way past due and my wife's E320 is now 10 years old so it's due. That thing has 12 bags!

I figure it's a lawyer thing in that it gives them a defense if you try to file suit because your 12 year old air bag didn't deploy correctly.

On a side note-the only time I have an airbag in the IIa is if I've got my mother in law with me!!:coffeedrink: (kudos to Milton Berle)

The manual typically states to inspect for operation of the SRS light, codes in the computer, and damage to the modules or harnesses. That is the extent of the inspection, just to make sure everything is in place and can work if needed.
