I don't have a lot of experience... My 24 GMC HD with the X31 package came with some pretty basic A/T tires (Firestone Transforce A/T). I plan to replace them with a taller (285/75/17) R/T tire after some time. But for now, I have concerns about airing down the tires I have.
I drive about 25-30% of the time on gravel, washed out dirt roads and sharp rocky terrain. The tires I have, although A/T, have nothing for side lugs or tread. They look almost like an all-season tire. I have not been airing them down because I am concerned about puncturing the sidewall or losing a bead. Is my concern valid? Because these commercial A/T tires don't have tread toward the sidewall, am I more at risk of a puncture?
