Apple is being roundly criticized for dumping Google Maps from the new iOS 6, and installing an inferior product in its place. Apple's map app doesn't yet have the depth of detail that Google's product has.

Apple is embarrassed about the criticism, and has posted an apology and a pledge to improve the product.

Google is rumored to be working on a Maps for iOS app, but it may not appear until year's end. Until then, here are four alternative navi apps that will run on iOS products:

Waze (free), Scout (free), Motion X GPS Drive ($1), Garmin Navigon ($40).

This is why reliance on cloud hosted apps, storage, messaging, etc. is always a bad idea if they are critical to how you operate.

With the stroke a pen at a board meeting or due to the after affects of a natural event the tools you rely on can be gone forever or cause you serious service disruption.

People really need to learn to take control of their own digital access and assets.

I believe TomTom also has a mapping solution available. I wonder how well it compares against apple's offering (considering Apple's using tom tom data among with other providers).
