Alternator Upgrade 4 XJ

I was searching the WWW and found a thread on Leepforum about the 2.5 dakota alternators working as an upgrade (117a) for the XJs (90a), unfortunately, it doesn't state if there is a particular year/years.
I was wondering if anyone knew or has done this swap.
My 93's alternator is getting tired and I think I'll pull a Dakota one from the pick-n-pull and try it before forking out 160 bills for a remfg one.

Thanks for any info...

The build sheet for my '96 XJ says it has a 117 amp alternator. You might check out other years on the web (Rockauto for instance.)

On the alternator itself are these markings:

Denso
made in Japan
5600 5685 (those last 4 in bold)
121000-3450 12v

edit:
Hmm, looking at Rockauto all the alternators are 90amp as well. Searching the web on the part number gives some hits that imply this is a 90 amp alternator so looks like the code on the build sheet is either wrong or they re-used it for a later alternator. :(

I was running one on my TJ for a while. Got it from a used yard (was doing some work for a guy that owned one so he through one into the deal).

Didn't really notice much useful difference over the 90 amp, but under normal driving and off roading I don't work the electrical system that hard. Rarely have to use the winch.

I ended up taking it off and going back to the 90a because @ some point it started letting my serp belt contact one of the water pump bolts. Just light contact, but enough that it would make noise and shine the bolt off.

I'm not sure if that was just a defective unit causing that or I managed to get one that bolted in place, but was just a hair different dimension than what the TJ wanted.

The 136 amp looks like an easy swap. If finding that becomes an issue it appears that in later years XJs came with higher amp alternators. Looking through Rockauto I see 117 amp alternators for 2001, 2000 and 1999. I also see some 120 amp units in 1997 and 1998.

But the 136 amp unit would seem to be the one to go for.
