Amayama Mitsu OEM parts A cautionary experience

A couple months ago I ordered some mitsu OEM parts directly from Amayama online. They are located in Japan. It took several days for them to approve my order, then I was able to pay (credit card). They waited another week for the charge to clear and send the parts. It took them several days to reply to messages. One month later I received the parts. One of which was made in Korea!

I thought buying parts in Japan made in Japan was common sense. Not in today's global market. Makes me wonder if all our OEM parts are really made in Japan? Hyundai oil filters work just fine on my Montero.

Maybe Korea (Doesn't exist) South Korea or North Korea, manufactures parts for Mitsubishi? I know Denso has a manufacturing plant in China.

Looking for that thing i just had in my hand...
The Korean parts are really good these days, However i've had problems with Amayama canceling my orders for Korean parts (discontinued by Mitsubishi but carried on my Hyundai). At least you got your parts, there are also Mitsubishi parts coming from Thailand (also good quality)

There's much to learn about mitsubishi and manufacturing.

There's nothing to raise caution over, you got your parts, they're manufactured to the specifications of MMC, all will be well. Was the problem a lack of instant response and amazon like shipping? In todays age of instant gratification Amayama is slow moving, but it's better than nothing and certainly light speed compared to ordering from japan 10 years ago.

So to really answer your question, hyundai has a license to manufacture the mitsu parts, same quality, in same cases the same tooling, in some cases, the only tooling left to make the part. like your signature says; just keep smiling. :D

Yes I'm still learning! Thanks Toasty and IncorporRatedX.......I remember when I purchased the truck in 1994, the parts Manager and Fleet Manager/Factory Rep educated me about Japanese parts and the differences. The factory rep schooled me on shame badges that employees wore, if something was build improperly etc. I understand it's a different world and it's a global economy. But, I have more faith in Korean/Thailand manufacturing than China. Thanks again gentlemen!

Cheers,

I've done business in the UAE and very positive. Received parts in less than a week from the UAE after ordering. Can't get that kind of service in the States!

For those interested: https://partsouq.com/

I was worried after reading about articles concerning fraud parts in UAE. But, they are legit.

wow you got the truck new? Very cool.

And you should have more faith in them than the chinese! the Chinese manufactures aren't even honest with each other, let alone with us stateside folks. But the good people of Hyundai in south korea continued to produce the gen 1 and 2 montero under license from mitsu, so a lot of manufacturing geared up over there. If you're unaware of this, you may also be unaware of Mohenic Garage in korea, look them up, it's a visual treat to see the old mitsu's in style and cared for.

Vehicle OEMs actually "make" very little for their cars. Most components and sub-assemblies and system assemblies are engineered and purchased thru automotive tier 1 subcontractors and assembled by either the OEM or (hold your breath) their subcontractors. Tier 1 subcontractors have global footprints often times located regionally near the OEM. Welcome to the global economy.

There are varied competencies across the globe including in the USA. I certainly would not expect your comment to be all encompassing for every or even most Chinese (automotive OEM tier) companies.

I work for an automotive tier 1 and have lived and worked in China for an automotive tier 1, and have visited and have business relationships with dozens of Chinese manufacturing facilities over the past 15 years, its really not as bad as you make it.

Aftermarket is another story.

Agreed. Thailand has a very stable skilled workforce. After the costs of manufacturing became too expensive in Japan, the Japanese moved (or expanded) their manufacturing businesses to Thailand.

A very long time ago! I believe it was 34,000 total with TT&L. Bought it from the fleet manager, who didn't work on commission. I had an Eclipse before that. My Montero has been garage kept. But, she gets some hard 4x4 when I play. Took it to the Bonnie Carre Spillway on day 2. Couldn't get her stuck. There were Toyota's with 44 inch (exact size unkn) that would get stuck on top of the mud. Montero is heavy so she would sink and move along. She has been coast to coast and now in the desert.

I don't think this experience bears a "cautionary tale." It's SOP for a global parts market. We're spoiled by Amazon and instant gratification without realizing much of the rest of the world doesn't function at our busy pace. I ordered a badge for my Pajero and it also took 2 weeks to process and ship and then another 6 weeks before it arrived. It took a week in customs as well. No fuss here...I'm happy the badge is even available.
