An interesting idea for center-mounting a winch

Another use is to run the rear double line out to the anchor point, then attach the stuck vehicle (Jeep, whatever) to the front, either single or double line. The rear attachment cable automatically tightens and the winching mog hardly has to have ground traction at all.

I never thought of that benefit! Anchoring the recovery vehicle is often a problem, and simply tying the back to a tree can put quite a bit of stretch on the chassis if you're using a front-mounted winch. It's neat solution to run the rear snatch-block out to the tree instead, so that the recovery vehicle is just "floating" on the cable.

Whoops... I'm wrong - it's not floating. Actually, there will be a tendency for the recovery vehicle to be pulled back towards the rear anchor (the tree), because the pull in the rearwards direction is twice the pull in the forward direction.

Recovering another vehicle using the rear snatch-block with the hook anchored to a tree near the front of the recovery vehicle, is no different to doing the same thing using any normal winch/snatchblock/anchor setup. (I.e. the stuck vehicle is pulled at up to twice the winch's pulling capacity, and the recovery vehicle and anchor each need to provide resistance up to 1 x the winch capacity).
